ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the Election Tribunal`s ruling on PS-114 Karachi election and ordered re-election in the constituency.

A three-judge SC bench headed by the chief justice had reserved its judgement on an appeal of Irf anullah Marwat challenging the tribunal`s decision of holding re-election in PS-114 Mehmoodabad.

The verdict was read out on Thursday by Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Supreme Court.

Irfanullah Marwat had won the PS-114 election on a PML-N ticket in the 2013 general elections.

MQM`s Abdur Rauf Siddiqui, who was runner-up, had challenged Mr Marwat`s success in the Election Tribunal.

In 2014, the tribunal had declared the polls in the PS-114 constituency null and void and ordered fresh elections.

Subsequently, Mr Marwat had challenged the tribunal`s decision in the Supreme Court.-APP
