ISLAMABAD:TheNationalAssembly Standing Committee on Government Assurance came down hard on the Capital Development Authority (CDA) over its failure to hand over developedplots to the owners in Sector E-12 even after receiving payments 28 years ago.

The committee, which met under the chairmanship of MNA Afzal Khokhar on Thursday, observed that most of the allottees had died and many others were still waiting to get their plots.

The chairman, however, said the com-mittee was committed to addressing the issue being faced by the plot owners and af fected villagers.

The committee was informed that the old villagers, whose land had been acquired for the development of the sector, were also not properly compensated.

CDA officials informed the committee that there were two types of affected people: those who spentmillions of rupees on the purchase of plots and those who provided land and houses to the CDA but received no proper compensation. The officials said the old dwellers were paid compensation and plots against their land and houses and they shifted to other areas.

But those who could not shift from the area due to dif ferent reasons are suf fering a lot. The committee directed the CDA to develop the sector without any further delay.

Meanwhile, a subcommittee of the standing committee on cabinet secretariat, headed by MNA Nafeesa Khattak, met at the CDA headquarters.

The committee recommended to the CDA to formulate a policy for disposing of nursery plots in a transparent manner.

The CDA was directed to provide substitute land to the owners whose nurseries were demolished af ter cancellation of thelease.

Ms Khattak and member Farhana Qamar also drew the attention of the member planning towards the mushrooming of encroachments at Bhara Kahu.
