Hand chopped off CM assures justice to boy`s family

S H E IK H U P U R A: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the Macharwali locality on Thursdayandmet13-yearold Irf an whose right hand was chopped off allegedly by his employer.

Irfan`s hand was chopped off in a fodder cutting machine by his landlord Shafgat Bibi and her brother Zafar Tarar for demanding meal a couple of days ago. After the Saf darabad police refused to register the case, the boy`s family moved the district and sessions judge who directed Sheikhupra District Police Officer Sarfraz Virk to get the case registered.

The chief minister assured the family members that the accused would be dealt with iron hands. He handed over a cheque for Rs1 million as compensation to the family and said an artificialhand would be transplanted to Irfan. He also announced that the government would provide funds for the education of Irfan`s brother and sister.

The chief minister also reprimanded the police for not registering the case.

He said Irfan`s mother had to travel for 10km to the police station but Station House Officer Wajih Shah did not bother to oblige her.

Mr Sharif also initiated an inquiry, headed by the Sargodha regional police officer, to probe into the matter and submit report to him shortly.

He also directed that the inquiry team to stay in Irfan`s village until the completion of the report.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Saqib Nisar has also taken suo moto notice of the incident and sought report from the police.

Also, Junaid Nazeer, a philanthropist of Karachi, has offered medical treatment to the boy in the UK.
