Police-public liaison termed must for peace

SHANGLA: The teachers and ulema can play their role to discourage the spread of extremism in educational institutions and ensure durable peace in the society.

DSP headquarters Riaz Khan said this while speaking at a jirga held at the District Police Hall here on Thursday which was attended by ulema, teachers and a number of local people.

The jirga was aimed at boosting peace in the district where the stakeholders were asked to extend a helping hand to the police and other law enforcement agencies for providing protection to the people and their properties.

Local elder Maulana Shah Wali Khan praised the police for organising the jirga, saying that it would produce good results.

Urging the people to avoid indulging in interest-based loan business, he said that taking interest on loans was forbidden in Islam. He asked the participants to cooperate with the policeand other law enforcement agencies to uproot the menace of interest-based loans from the society.

Khalilur Rahman, chairman of the dispute resolution council, said that public-police cooperation was important for sustainable peace and curbing crimes in the area.

TRADERS DEMAND: Traders of Bisham city on Thursday demanded of the tehsil municipal administration to provide them with basic facilities and ensure cleanliness in the main bazaar.

They were speaking here at a meeting, which was attended by local traders, councillors and notables.

The speakers lashed out at the tehsil administration for making raids on their shops and trading centers and slapping heavy fines on the traders without any justification. They urged the authorities to establish a laboratory for checking the quahty of food and beverages. Correspondent
