PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has tasked a committee to prepare a draft healthcare strategy paper for the aging population.

Officials said that health secretary Abid Majeed had tasked Dr Shahid Yunis and Dr Shaheen Afridi to draw up a draft policy within three weeks after consultation with research institutions and practitioners.

An of ficial said that it was imperative to develop a strategy to cater to theneeds of elderly people.

He said that the proposed interventions would include community geriatric nursing, mental healthcare, daycare centres, fall-prevention avoidance lessons as well as environment and multiple illnesses management of the elderly with f rail bodies.

He said that hospices for the terminally ill and health promotion strategy towards `prevention and wellness across the life span` would be part of the interventions.Bureau Report
