US embassy, A JK varsity sign MoU

MUZAFFARABAD: The US embassy in Islamabad has renewed its partnership with the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (UAJK) to oversee the Lincoln Corner in the varsity`s City Campus for another two years.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed by the US embassy`s Minister Counsellor for PublicAffairsRaymondCastilloandUAJKVice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kaleem Abbasi here on Wednesday on the occasion of 15thanniversary of Lincoln Corner.

The Lincoln Corner includes a Maker Space with a 3-D printer and virtual reality headsets, a comprehensive collection of books, magazines, scholarly databases, and an Americana-themed public events space. In collaboration with the US Embassy, it organises various programmes for varsity students and the local community, focusing on English language learning, American education resources, science and technology and entrepreneurship.

`As we mark this 15-year anniversary celebration, we have many activities to look forward to in the future.Today I have the pleasure of announcing the launch of the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) training for Lincoln Corner Muzaffarabad starting June 11,` Mr Castillo said on the occasion.

He informed that AWE Pakistan was a competitive, fullyfunded programme offered by the US Mission to Pakistan to assist women entrepreneurs with the skills, resources, and networks needed to establish and grow their businesses, through facilitated, online learning.

In his welcome address, VC Abbasi expressed his deep gratitude to the US Embassy for choosing UAJK for establishment of Lincoln Corner, which he said was an important initiative to facilitate the students and faculty members in learning about the US, its history, culture, educational system, and the institutions of higher learning there.
