TAXILA: District Police Officer (Attock) Rana Shoaib Mehmood has been directed by the government to report to the Central Police Office, Lahore.

Senior Superintendent of Police Arif Shahbaz has assumed charge of the post of DPO.

According to police, Mr Mehmood was transferred on political grounds for not `properly handling` the case of Member of National Assembly Sheikh Rashid Shafique.

The DPO was transferred over his failure to recover key evidence in the case registered against Mr Shafique, which led to his release on bail, sources revealed.

However, when contacted, the spokesman for the district police said this was not the reason why the DPO was transferred, adding that it was a routine matter. Correspondent
