Students advised to promote peace through diverse activities

PESHAWAR: Speakers at a cultural event here on Saturday urged law students to work for the promotion of peace through plethora of activities on the campus.

They said that people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were well-aware of the fact that peace, prosperity and progress were the mainstay of their existence.

The event titled `Peace Night` was celebrated at Jinnah Law College Peshawar under the auspices of Jinnah Literature and Law Society (JLLS). A large number of students and faculty members attended the annual event. Rights and peace activists also showed up at the function.

The principal of the college, Prof Zulfiqar Ali, who chaired the event, said that young lawyers should work for promoting the cause of peace and stability in the society. He said that no society could progress without peace. Local people knew the significance ofpeace,he added.

Advocate Inayatur Rahman, the managing director of Jinnah Law College, presented a welcome address to guests, saying the peace event was a unique presentation of young lawyers` culture on the campus.

`People of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have an urge for peace, prosperity and progress as they have suffered militancy. Young lawyers are required to speed up their efforts for restoring complete peace in the region and thecountry at large,` he said.

Osama Ali, president of Jinnah Literature and Law Society, pointed out that youth could play a pivotal role in shaping the outlook of society through several artistic and cultural activities.

Noted social activist Advocate Aminullah Khan Kundi on the occasion said that such a vibrant function was reflective of the people`s aspirations that had been successful in breaking the militants` narrative and forwarding the cause of universal values.

A considerable number of female participants were part of the event where their representatives stressed the need for positive socialising andactive interaction on the campus.

Ruqia Ahmad Jan Bibi, a law student, said that the peace event gave them an opportunity to enjoy a few moments of joy and social interaction.

Advocate Zarbakht Ali Khan, another rights activist, maintained that people of the militancy-plagued province loved art and culture and never supported terrorist`s narrative.

The trio of peace, prosperity and progress was the lone solution to all the ills of the society, he added.

Later noted folk artist Zafar Farooq Ustad entrained the audience with his velvety voice and sang popular numbers of Ghani Khan, Ajmal Khattak and Rahmat Shah Sayel.
