KOHAT: Commissioner Kohat division Syed Jamaluddin on Wednesday asked the administrations of Kohat, Karak and Hangu districts to collect data of Afghan nationals and address the complaints about extortion of money and kidnappings for ransom in their respective areas.
He was addressing a meeting of the intelligence coordination committee at his office here which was attended by the deputy commissioners and district police officers of the three districts besides Pakistan Army and Intelligence Bureau officials.
The commissioner was earlier given a briefing about the prevailing law and order situation in the region after which he directed the officials not to spare anti-social elements and militants.
He said that providing security to the life and property of people was the sole responsibility of the government. He said that terrorism threat had increased during past few days therefore if needed additional police checkposts should be established at sensitive installations.
Meanwhile, the Kohat police on Wednesday arrested an Afghan national who in the guise of militant would allegedly extort money from people at an Afghan refugee camp here.
According to police, the ar-rested man, Abdul Baqi, had been telling people that he had contacts with banned TTP. The police have also seized a mobile phone, one Kalashnikov and pistol from him. Police have started investigation after registering a case against him.
Earlier, the Lachi and Bilitang police carried out a search operation and arrested three proclaimed offenders on Wednesday. The three were identified as Rehmatullah, Aqal Khan and Mazhabullah. The police have registered separate cases against them.
NO ELECTRICITY: Five villages of Hangu are without electricity from the last two months, while authorities have not been heeding to the requests of the affected people to restore electricity supply.
The power consumers from Shna Warai, Zargari, Chappri Naryab, Adam Patay and Sra Chappri villages staged a protest against the power suspension in front of Hangu Press Club on Wednesday.
