PAKISTAN`S problems are not insurmountable, but it seems that it requires generations to fill the leadership vacuum to deal with them.
I am talking in the context of the establishment of military courts in Pakistan.
Just a few months ago, we witnessed political parties raising questions on the passing ofthe 21st Amendment and Raza Rabbani was in tears while announcing his support for military courts. But, of what use are those tears if they have failed to eradicate the longstanding menace of lack of political will and the indifference of political leaders towards crucial issues of state? It has been six months since the establishment of the military courts and there is not even the slightest sign of revamping the criminal justice system in Pakistan. The game of power politics continues in full swing with political parties assailing the budget, forming coalitions to demand the ouster of a provincial government and staging protests on the shortage of water with a tinge of ethnicism.
