I WOULD like to draw the attention of higher authorities towards the unsatisfactory state of affairs of the Water Department of the Cantonment Board of Clif ton (CBC).
DHA and Clif ton areas have always suffered from a shortage of water on account of the insufficient quota allocated for these areas by the KWSB. But the situation has worsened for the residents of DHA and Clif ton because of the inefficiency and corruption in the CBC.
It seemshigher CBCofficialshaveleft everything in the hands of the lower staff who are not only inefficient but indulge in corruption in denying the residents their right to water and other basic services.
Complaints remain unattended for weeks but the of ficials remain totally unconcerned.
One reason for the water woes of the residents is that many people have started installing suction pumps with the complicity of the Cantonment Board`s water department staff.
The result is that others are denied their fair share of water. The CBC bosses havefailed to exercise any control on their staff.
I request the higher authorities to pull up the CBC bosses to pay attention to the water problem by unearthing all the suction pumps and eliminating corruption in the water department.
The water complaints section should remain open on all days of the week, including holidays.
A DH A resident Karachi (2) RESIDENTS of Block-4, living behind Mohatta Palace, Clif ton, have been facing a severe water shortage for the past six months. They are lef t with no alternative but to buy unhygienic water from the tanker mafia for Rs 4,000 per tank every week.
Recently a new pipeline has been laid by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) from the Two-Talwar pump station to PPP-favourites and another line has been laid near the Sindh Archives Building behind Park Towers.
The of ficial in-charge confirmed to us that no other residents would get water connection from the newly-laid pipelines. I have remained in constant touch with the KWSB for resumption of the water supply, but in vain.
I request the Sindh chief minister and the minister of local bodies to see that water is supplied to us on a regular basis as soon as possible.
