2017-06-12
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Salahuddin Khan Mehsud has directed the Peshawar city police chief to look into an incident where traffic police officials manhandled a fruit vendor.

A statement issued from the central police office here on Sunday said the police chief while taking notice of reports of police torture has directed the city police chief to investigate the incident and submit its report.

The incident took place on Saturday at the Fawara Chowk neighbourhood of Peshawar Cantonment.

Gul Nazuk in his complaint said he had been selling fruit in the area for past one year, and on Saturday five police personnel led by Mushtaq Khan came to the area and started swearing at him and also beat him up. He said the cops later put him into a vehicle and took him to traffic police headquarters, located at Bacha Khan Chowk where he was subjected to beatings.

He said he was injured in a suicide attack on FC Commandant Safwat Ghayyur back in 2010, wherein he suffered a jawbone injury. The complainant said he spent close to half a million on treating the injury; however, his jawbone again fractured due to police torture. —Bureau Report
