SARGODHA: The bodies of the three people, who drowned after their feet slipped while taking selfies on the river Jhelum, have been recovered and handed over to their heirs.

According to sources, four members of the Kot Lashkar Khan family including a man and his wife fell into the river from the Langarwala Bridge in Sahiwal, Sargodha, while taking selfies on their mobile phones.

Among them, 23-yearold Zeeshan Anwar was rescued alive with the help of a nearby sailor.

The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Sarfaraz Mumtaz, his 22-year-old wife Nida Sarfaraz, and 22-year-old Nazia Sajjad.

A two-day search and rescue operation led to the recovery of their bodies, which were returned to their families.

District Emergency Officer Mazhar Shah said Rescue 1122 received an emergency call reporting that four people had drowned in the river while walking on the bridge. In response, res-cue teams were dispatched.

Shah supervised the rescue operation, which successfully saved Zeeshan and recovered the other three bodies within a day.

WATER SUPPLY: The Municipal Corporation staff restored drinking water supply to New Satellite Town area of Sargodha city by replacing the water pipeline.

According to sources, theissue ofacuteshortage of potable water in the New Satellite Town was pointed out by a resident in a social media post.

He pointed out that the water supply to the area has been suspended for several days, holding poor performance of the water supply system and the negligence of the contractor and staff responsible for the situation.

He said due to the canal closure, the water supply to the area has been completely stopped, causing problems to around 150,000 residents.

Taking notice of the complaint, the divisional commissioner directed the MC chief officer and other concerned officers to take urgent steps to restore water supply.
