TRARKHEL: Thousands of patriots in Kashmir are rotting in jails and concessions enjoyed by some of them according to their social status have been withdrawn since the recent visit of Pandit Nehru to Kashmir and they are now being treated worse than moral offenders, reveals a resolution passed by the All-Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference.

...The Working Committee`s resolution further says: `The civilised world will be shocked to learn that three Muslim Conference leaders who were arrested during the notorious regime of Pandit Ramchandra Kak ... are still detained. Can Sheikh Abdullah and Pandit Nehru, who claim to stand for democratic conventions, give any justification as to why they have still detained these leaders without trial? [Meanwhile, as reported from Murree,] Mr Ghazanfar Ali Khan, the Pakistan Minister for Refugees and Rehabilitation . .

revealed ... that before the partition Lord Mountbatten had given him a definite assurance that if trouble started anywhere in the sub-continent he would take strong measures to maintain peace ... but when in Karachi, on August 14, he reminded the Viceroy of the promise he found him cold and indifferent.
