Rangers get six `MQM workers` custody

KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers informed on Tuesday an antiterrorism court about 90-day preventive detention of six suspects for questioning.

The personnel of paramilitary force along with their legal team produced Khurram, alias Muchhar; Mahmood, Shahid-ur-Rehman, alias Kala; Mobin; Zubair, alias Handi; and Kashif, alias Machha said to be workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, before the incharge judge of the ATC-III.

They contended that there were credible information about their involvement in targeted killing, extortion and other terrorism related activities. Therefore, they informed the court that the suspects were placed under preventive detention for three months under Section 11EEEE (1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 for inquiry.

The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, claimed to have arrested six activ-ists of MQM in Ranchore Line on Monday for their alleged involvement in extortion and targeted killings and said they had found in their possession arms and ammunition.

Nadra official remanded A judicial magistrate remanded on Tuesday an official of the NationalDatabaseandRegistration Authority (Nadra) in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency in a case pertaining to registering aliens.

The FIA raided the Nadra office in Keamari on Aug 10 and arrested deputy assistant director and incharge of the office Abdul Qadeer for allegedly registering Afghans and other illegal immigrants after taking bribe.

The investigating officer produced the suspectbefore the court and sought his custody for questioning.

A judicial magistrate (west) handed him over to the FIA on eight-day physical remand.
