TAXILA: The district health authorities on Tuesday sealed a hospital`s godowns for keeping drugs in poor and unhygienic condition and selling them without a licence.

Besides, they fined seven drugs distribution companies vehiclesfornot abidingby the relevantrulesfor transportation of medicines.

The health officials comprised deputy district health officer Dr Sarfaraz Khan and inspector Malik Arshad Awan.

Talking to mediapersons, Mr Awan said the hospital administration was selling medicines without holding drugs sales licence which is mandatory under Drugs Rules 1976 and Punjab Healthcare Commission Rules 2010.

He said the hospital in a sheer violation of rules did not have a pharmacist to oversee purchase and retail sale of medicines.

The inspector said the hospital`s godown did not have a proper cooling system where medicines worth Rs30 million were kept.

Besides, the hygienic condition of the store was very poor, the drug inspector claimed.

The team also issued tickets to seven vehicles of different premier drugs distribution companies for not adopting proper procedure for transportation of medicines at Margalla check post on G.T. Road.

The cases against the distribution companies and the hospital had been reffered to district quality control board forfurtherlegalaction.

Responding a question, he said that action against quacks and violators of drug rules would continue uninterrupted.

He said that a massive crackdown would also be launched on the illegal business of blood banks, laboratories and dentalclinics.
