GILGIT: A couple was shot dead for marrying of their own free will in Ghizer district here the other day.

Police suspected relatives of the girl to be involved in the murder, which took place in Gahckuch, the district headquarters of Ghizer.

An official of Gahkuch police station told Dawn on condition of anonymity on Tuesday the victim, Zaheer Ahmed, 22, resident of Bubor valley of Ghizer, was a truck driver. He married a 19 year girl {whose identity couldn`t be ascertained), resident of Sharoot area of Ghizer, who was student of 10th class in a local school.

The official said the couple had married against wish of the girl`s parents a year ago. He said the newly married couple had been receiving threats from girl`s relatives. Correspondent
