Three declared `proclaimed offenders` in lawyer murder case

KARACHI: An antiterrorism court declared on Thursday three men proclaimed offenders in the murder case of a senior lawyer.

Syed Azmat Hussain, alias Azmat, and Mohammad Hameed, alias Papu, said to be political activists, with their absconding accomplices have been booked for allegedly killing Advocate Mansoob Ali Qureshi in September 2001 in the Arambagh area.

Police had shown Abdul Wahab, Shahzad and Nasir as absconders in the charge sheet.After completing proceedings under Sections 87 (proclamation for persons absconding) and 88 (attachment of property of person absconding) of the criminal procedure code, the police submitted the report.

Declaring them proclaimed offenders, ATC-I judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso bifurcated their case and fixed Aug 30 for the indictment of the detained suspects.

Suspect remanded The administrative judge of antiterrorism courts remanded on Thursday a suspect in prison in a case pertaining to a gun attack on the rally of anationalist party.

After the end of his physical remand, police reproduced Sarwar Qureshi before the court and the administrative judge sent him to prison on 14-day judicial remand.

According to the prosecution, the Awami Tehreek took out a rally `Mohabbat-e-Sindh Rally` from Lyari to the Karachi Press Club on May 22, 2012 and when the procession was passing through the Napier Road it was attacked by gunmen.

Six people, including a woman, were killed in the attack while nine others wounded. Amir Ali, alias Sir Phata, was arrested in the case.
