Govt decides to set up education city in Swabi

SWABI: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to establish an education city in Swabi district, which would house a university for women and a college and school for girls besides other facilities, said sources in the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

They said that the area of KothaDegree College for Boys was selected for the project and the needed land in the vicinity had been acquired by the district administration where buildings would be built on emergency basis.

They said that the boys` degree college would be shifted to the under-construction girls` degree college near Safdar Chowk and the girls college to the proposed education city.

The sources said that about a week ago KP Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and minister for higher education Mushtaq Ghani had laid foundation of the first government commerce college for girls at the site.

They said that the building ofcommerce college would cost Rs230 million and the project would be completed before the end of PTI-led government`s term.

They said that the Swabi Women University, which was currently functioning at Gulu Dheri in the building of agricultural research centre, would be shifted to the education city. They said that construction of building for the university and related facilities would cost an estimated Rs1.20 billion.

When contacted, Mr Asad said that the PTI chairman would lay the foundation stone of education city on Aug 27. `The establishment of education city is a gift of the government to people of the district,` he said.

COMMITS SUICIDE: A secondyear student shot himself dead with a pistol inside his house in Naro Banada village of Maneri Bala region here on Friday, police said.

The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Swabi city police station. It has been learnt that the student, Tauheed Nawab, had earlier exchanged hot words with his father Bakhat Nawab over some domestic issue. He was taken to the DHQ hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Meanwhile, police arrested an Afghan national who was allegedly smuggling charas and heroin in handmade shoes. The police identified him as Nageeb who was currently living in Karkhano Market area of Peshawar.
