Power breakdowns, water shortage irk Karak traders

KARAK: Traders said here on Thursday that several power transformers in Karak city had been lying faulty for the last many days and there was no power supply besides acute shortage of drinking water, but the authorities failed to resolve their problems despite repeated requests.
Speaking at a meeting, district president of traders association Tahir Ayub Khattak and general secretary Ghulam Rabbani said that in the present circumstances they had been buying drinking water at Rs20 per gallon. They said that the installed power transformers in the city were also insufficient to meet the need of traders.
The traders said that they had brought the issues into the notice of quarters concerned, but to no avail. They demanded of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company to install four more transformers in the city. They also complained about low gas pressure and claimed that hoteliers were using wood as a fuel despite paying monthly gas bills.
They demanded of the district administration to resolve their problems without delay.
SCHOOL FUNDS: Assistant district education officer, Karak, Gul Faraz Khattak has asked teachers to spend the parent teacher council funds on provision of basic needs to the schools and asked the council members to draw their funds from banks.
The ADO was addressing a meeting of the parent teacher councils here on Thursday. He asked the head teachers to form new councils as the term of the present councils had expired. He said that the government wanted provide better environment to the students.
The teachers demanded that funds being provided to schools should be increased so that problems could be resolved in a better way. They also demanded a new survey of schools to identify the needs, saying that the funds should be released accordingly.
