ECP issues code of conduct for NA-4 by-poll

PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday issued code of conduct for the by-election in NA 4, Peshawar IV, Constituency, placing ban on announcing of development schemes by the federal, provincial and local governments in the area and participation in the electoral campaign by the public office holders, including president, prime minister, federal and provincial ministers, MNAs and MPAs.

According to a press release issued here, the ECP stated that the code of conduct was impodant for holding free, fair and impartial polls in the constituency where the seat had fallen vacant recently with the death of PTl MNA Gulzar Khan. Polling on the seat will be held on Oct 26.

The commission said all the public office holders, including representatives of the local governments, were also barred from announcing any development schemes in the constituency.

Moreover, the commission has also banned publication of advenisements on government expenses for influencing the polls by the federal, provincial and local governments. The official media have also been barred from broadcasting panial political news and projection.
