IJT eyes 50,000 new members in KP

PESHAWAR: The Islami Jamiat Talaba, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the student body of the Jamaat-i-Islami, has announced it will register 50,000 new members in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the upcoming campaign.

The announcement was made by IJT provincial nazim Shahkar Aziz during a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday.

Accompanied by IJT leaders Shakeel Ahmad, Tuheed Khan and others, Mr Aziz said the IJT would carry out the membership campaign prior to the holding of the youth convention in the provincial capital on Nov 2.

He said around 0.2 million youths would be contacted during the campaign and that the target to register new IJT members in KP was 50,000.

The IJT leader said the convention was aimed at paving the way for restoring the students`unions in the province.

He said the campaign would focus on pressing the government for the revival of student unions, introduction of uniform education system and merger of Fata with KP for the bright future of tribal youths, reduction of tuition fee, and increase in the province`s educational budget.

Mr Aziz said special seminars and referendum would be held under the campaign at all educational institutions of the province, while the hoisting of banners and signature drive were also part of it.

He said the IJT would mark the first week of October to highlight the importance of teachers, while a grand youth convention had planned to hold on Nov 2.

The IJT leader said the youths had played a pivotal role for making Pakistan as true Islamic welf are state.

He said the students` contribution towards the country`s progress and development had gradually reduced and therefore, the IJT campaign would support to revive the role of youths in the national progress.

Mr Aziz said the campaign would help raise voice for the rights of students and make vigorous efforts to revive studentunions across the province.
