CM, cabinet members briefed on security situation

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caretaker Chief Minister Mohammad Azam Khan along with his cabinet members on Monday visited the Corps Headquarters here, where they were briefed about the overall security situation in the province, the ongoing development projects in the merged districts and capacity building of the police department.

According to a statement, Peshawar Corps Commander Lt-Gen Hassan Azhar Hayat and other senior civil and military officials also attended the meeting.

The statement said that the participants reiterated the importance of launching socioeconomic development projects, including the revival of tourism sector and mineral exploration in the merged districts, for sustainable growth in the area.

The meeting also reviewed the mechanism of border management, including the measures to curb smuggling of goods, and put forward a comprehensive approach to address the issues.

The participants underscored the importance of the capacity building of the provincial police department, including the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and expressed satisfaction on the recent achievements of the police in thwarting terrorist attacks across the province.

The statement said that the participants paid rich tribute to the supreme sacrifices of the martyred, who laid their lives for the safety, security and territorial integrity of the motherland.
