DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A policeman was martyred when unknown gunmen opened fire on him near Saggu area in the jurisdiction of the Daraban police station here on Monday.

A police spokesman said that Samiullah was going to the judicial complex in Daraban on a motorcycle for duty when he was attacked by miscreants. He said that as a result of the firing, the policeman died on the spot.

A police team reached the spot immediately after the incident, cordoned off the area and started a search operation for the attackers.

Meanwhile, rivals killed an elderly man over a dispute in Wanda Solanhr area, an official of the Yarik police station said on Monday.

He said that Ramzan, a resident of Chowki Allah Dad, filed a report with the police, stating that he along with his father, Abdul Rasheed, 63, a cousin and a brother was standing opposite to the Chowki Allah Dad in Wanda Solanhr area when their opponents, namely Khanzada, Siraj and Salahuddin, residents of 15 Meel Chowki, appeared there and opened fire on his father, killing him on the spot.

The Yarik police registered a case into the murder and started further investigations.
