MANSEHRA: Three people were killed and around 50 injured in road accidents in Mansehra and Lower Kohistan districts on Monday.
A jeep fell into a ravine in Sharan area of Mansehra`s Manor valley killing two tourists and critically injuring seven.
The accident occurred as the driver lost control of the jeep on the way from Balakot to Manor.
The locals shifted the injured all from Gujranwala district in Punjab province to the tehsil hospital where doctors declared Mohammad Yusuf and Mian Rehman dead and referred the rest to the Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad.
One of the injured was stated to be in critical condition.
Also, a coach plunged into a gorge near Sholgara area in Lower Kohistan killing a passenger and injuring 42.The accident occurred as driver Mohammad Yunus lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn on the Karakoram Highway.
The coach was bound for Rawalpindi from Gilgit.
The residents shifted the injured to the civil hospital in Pattan, where doctors declared the driver dead and referred two with critical injuries to the Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad, according to district police officer Jamil Akhtar.
A N T IEN CR OAC H ME N T DRIVE: The tehsil municipal administrationonMondaylaunched an anti-encroachment campaign in Mansehra city and its suburbs.
Led by encroachment inspector Mohammad Asif, the TMA team seized goods placed outside shops and in markets during surprise visits to Kashmir Road, Shinkiari Road and Abbottabad Road.
Mr Asif warned if traders didn`t stop encroaching on the government`sland, they would be heavily fined.
SUGAR SEIZED: The food department on Monday seized over 3,000 sugar bags and arrested four hoarders during raids on the outskirts of Mansehra city.
`Sugar bags were kept in godowns on the Chinar Road,` assistant food controller Shaukat Sultan told reporters.
He said those godowns were sealed and hoarders were held and shifted to the city police station after the registration of cases under the Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 1977.
The official said the crackdown on sugar hoarding would continue until the last bag illegally kept in godowns was taken into custody.
He urged people to inform the department about hoarders for action and said names of such people won`t be disclosed.
Mr Sultan said sugar price was stabilising due to the crackdown.
