THIS is with reference to the letter `FBR indifference is a cause of distress` (Aug 17), which raised certain points related to the Corporate Tax Office of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Karachi. In July this year, the said office disposed of 1,234 cases of exemptions related to pension, gratuity, provident funds and non-profitable organisations (NPOs) under the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. Till Aug 19, exemptions certificates wereissued in 405 cases, while in another 287 cases either documentation was found incomplete or statutory provisions had not been complied with.
In order to facilitate the taxpayers, the office remained functional even on Aug 14, which happens to be the country`s Independence Day, indicating FBR`s commitment towards taxpayer facilitation.
