10,000 policemen for Muharram security

LAHORE: Police have finalised a security plan for Muharram to maintain peace and ensure foolproof security for majalis, processions and imambargahs.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Capt retired Captain Amin Wains said this at a meeting of the district peace committee at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Saturday. Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) Shahzad Sultanand Dr Haider Ashraf, District Coordination Officer retired Captain Usman, Sahibzada Usman Noori, Allama Mushtaq Husain Jaffari, Alhaj Haider Ali Mirza, Allama Qari Ashiq Husain, Maulana Mujeebur Rehman Ingilabi, Hafiz Asad Obaid and Maulana Shakeelur Rehman were present.

It was decided that more than 10,000 police officers and officials would be deployed for 5,369 majalis and 615 mourning processions in the city.The CCPO said sectarian harmony was of paramount importance and there was a need to respect religious sentiments of all schools of thought.

He directed the operations DIG to consider the recommendations of the members of the committee in the security plan.

He said legal action should be taken against the misuse of loudspeakers without any discrimination.

The CCPO directed the DIG to ensure that women police officials were deployed at women majalis.
