NAWABSHAH: Activists of the Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party (STP) took out a rally and held a demonstration here on Sunday to demand national language status for Sindhi.

Led by party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi, the rally started from the Old Nakka Sakrand road and ended at Mohni Bazaar after passing thorough different roads.

Chanting slogans in favour of their demand, the protesters were carrying banners and placards.

Addressing the protesters, Dr Magsi said attendance of such a large number of people in the rally in the native town of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari proved that the people were fed up with the PPP and needed an honest leadership.

He alleged that the ruling party was planning massive rigging in the upcoming local government elections as hundreds of rival party workers here already been arrested and the nomination forms of hundreds of candidates were rejected by PPP-deputed returning officers.

He said Sindh was their motherland with an old civilisation and Sindhi was a historical language so it must be given the status of national language.

Others who also spoke included Dr Hameed Memon, Altaf Jiskani, Nisar Keerio, Imran Keerio and Syed Ather Shah.
