Project for extending Polyclinic delayed

By A Reporter 2016-10-12
ISLAMABAD: The projectforextendingPolyclinic, which has already been delayed eight years, will be furtherdelayed afterthelay out plan was rejected due to the extravagantuse ofland.

Talking to Dawn, hospital`s Executive Director Dr LU Baig said the lay-out plan will be reviewed as land is being used inappropriately in the current plans.

`We have told the Public Works Department to ensure a more effective use of the land in the lay out plans so that more departments and facilities can be constructed on the same land,` he said.

`There are long corridors in the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) and patients have to be carried on stretchers through them for almost half a kilometre at times to take them from department to department.

We want a lay out plan in which all the departments are close together,`he added.

Dr Baig said the revised plans will include parking in the basement as the hospital extension will be sandwiched between roads, which the hospital administration does not want blocked due to parking outside.

`We also want a proper waiting area, as in our country, 10 people will accompany one patient,` he said.

Dr Baig said the new lay out plan will be made in the current month and that the Central Development Working Party will then give approval for the PC-I for the construction of the building.

He said the prime minister was also very interested in the project and that standing committees of both the National Assembly and Senate were pushing for the completion of the project, which is why construction work will be started soon.

Dr Baig said he will try his best to remove the objections to the lay-out plan and start construction work as soon as possible.
