Woman`s murder sparks off protest

LAHORE: Many people on Tuesday staged a demonstration in Shahdara Town against the gruesome murder of a woman.

Some unidentified men had burnt Firdous Bibi alive and she was found dead in fields.

As the area people came to know about the incident, they blocked the main road and demanded a probe into the alleged murder.

The protest that lasted for hours snarled up the traffic as police werebusy in Muharram duty.

The relatives told the media that Firdous Bibi had left home on Monday morning to bring edibles for her children and didn`t return for hours.

Later, they came to know by the police that she had been burnt alive and her body was found in fields.

They said Firdous or her family had no enmity with anyone. The protesters dispersed after police assured them of justice.

Police have registered a case against unidentified killer(s) andlaunched investigation.

Racecourse police said Ali and Awais riding a motorbike were on their way to some market when the truck hit them near The Mall Underpass. They said Ali succumbed to his injuries on the spot while Awais was said to be critical at hospital.

The driver managed his escape, leaving the truck on the road.
