LAHORE: The West Pakistan Cabinet, which met here today [Oct 11] under the chairmanship of Governor Mohammad Musa, decided to constitute a committee to evolve broad outlines for the future development of Karachi in respect of residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural needs of the city.

The Committee, which would be headed by a Member of the Board of Revenue (Land Utilisation), would also evolve guidelines for the sale of land by private treaty, to individuals and cooperative societies for residential, commercial and industrial purposes. It would also fix principies for the sale price of such land proposed to be sold by private treaty as against public auction.

The Committee will also study the question of registration of conversion charge for land from agricultural purposes to other purposes and would determine the desirability or otherwise of the retention of the existing five-mile limit in this regard.

An official spol(esman told newsmen after the meeting that the six-member committee, headed by Member Board of Revenue (Land Utilisation), will consist of Commissioner of Karachi Division, West Pakistan Secretaries for Industries, Finance and Basic Democracies and DirectorGeneral of Karachi Development Authority.

The Committee would submit its report to the provincial Governor within the shortest possible time. The Cabinet also decided that in future no science college in the province will be allowed to be converted into an arts college.

In future all new colleges would be asked to include science faculties also. This measure of the cabinet, an official spol(esman announced at a post-Cabinet meeting briefing, has been taken following complaints received by the President that a science college had recently been turned into an arts college.
