RAHIM YAR KHAN: Many people have complained about admission irregularities at the Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology (KFUEIT).
Abdul Qadir, the father of a student, said he got registration for his daughter after paying Rs700 for admission to computer engineering. The first meritlistwas displayedon Oct 2 and the last date for depositing the dues was Oct 6.
In the first merit list, the institution `merged` the candidates of BS civil and computer engineering in the disciplines of BS electrical and mechanical engineering due to which merit criteria was affected.
He said when he inquired from the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) about the KFUEIT recognition, he came to know that the PEC had not recognised the degrees of civil and computer engineering -a fact about which its administration did not inform the applicants.
He said after the feedeposit date of first merit list, the KFUEIT did not display the second merit list and the candidates were told that it was in process.
Tariq Mehmood Ahmed said his son got admission to BS computer sciences and was third in the first merit list which meant he deserved scholarship but the KFUEIT administration was not considering him eligible for it because, they say, there were two candidates on second position having same merit.
He further said there were many complaints about political interference in admissions to the institution.
KFUEIT PRO Mahmood Malik told Dawn that the PEC accreditation process was being carried out according to a criteria according to which teams visit the institution four times and assess its eligibility.
`Initial visit of the PEC has been successfully done at the KFUEIT,` he said.
He denied political pressure for admissions and said the entire procedure was done on merit.
He claimed that the second merit list was displayed on Oct 9.
