KARACHI: Capt Gohar Ayub Khan, MNA and the Chairman of the Muslim League Co-ordinating Council, Karachi, yesterday [Oct 11] announced that the University of Karachi will be given 30 buses and that the fare on the Campus route will be reduced by 50 per cent, to ease the so far perennial transport problem of the students.
The President of the Karachi University Students Union, and other members of the Union had placed before the Council their transport difficulties and requested that 20 buses be made available to the University to solve their transport problem.
Capt Gohar Ayub Khan, in a Press statement, said that the Council had full sympathy with the difficulty being faced by the students and had `strongly recommended` their case for the buses and the fare to the Road Transport Corporation and the Provincial Government.
The statement noted that the University was at a considerable distance from the City and there had been an acute shortage of transport on the route. Also, the few buses that existed were unreliable and were packed beyond capacity and that over-speeding by these buses had `taken a heavy toll of human life`.
