T HIS is in response to Saman Malik`s letter `Ms or Mrs` (Oct 9) suggesting that a woman should be addressed as Ms and not Mrs. I support her suggestion.
I returned to Pakistan from the US 19 years ago and was annoyed when I was frequently asked: `Aap ka naam (what`s your name), Mrs?` It appeared it was assumed I was married. Hence they called me `Mrs`. Once I asked them about how do they `know me to be a Mrs?` As I am not married, I gave them the example of Benazir Bhutto who, had never been called Mrs Zardari, rather mentioned as Mohatrma Benazir or Ms Bhutto. As I am a doctor, so I asked them to address me as `Doctor`.
