DC orders probe into woman`s death

SAHIWAL: The deputy commissioner formed a two-member committee on Monday to probe into the death of an elderly woman at the emergency ward of the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital after her relatives blamed it on doctors` negligence.

According to hospital sources, a man, Khalid Maqsood, brought his grandmother Mumtaz Begum, 70, a resident of 65/GD, Arifwala, to the hospital`s emergency ward with low blood pressure compliant, who later died there after being administered an injection.

Maqsood told the media her grandmother came to the hospital`semergency ward on foot, where two women doctors and paramedical staff were on duty.

He alleged that her grandmother was not provided `proper` medical treatment at the emergency ward and the doctors on duty showed `irresponsibility and carelessness` in treating the old lady. He said the elderly woman died within five to ten minutes of being administered an injection at the hospital`s emergency ward.

Following the woman`s death, her two dozen relatives and family members strongly protested against the doctors` alleged negligence by placing her body in the emergency wardfor around 40 minutes. The protesters demanded registration of a case againstthe duty doctors.

They, however, dispersed after being assured by the hospital`s medical superintendent that justice would be done on the basis of the inquiry report`s findings.DC Wajid Ali Shah, taking notice of the incident formed a two-member inquiry committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sher Afgan.

MS Dr Waheed said the committee would submit her findings within three days. The DC said that those responsible for the incident would not be spared. Correspondent
