Power workers observe `demand day`

LAHORE: Electricity workers observed `demand day` all over the country on Wednesday under the aegis of the All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union.

At a meeting held at Bakhtiar Labour Hall, the workers demanded the prime minister and the federal energy minister to take measures for raising productivity of power companies instead of their proposed privatisation.

They also demanded that vacant posts should be filled in order to save the electricity staff fromextra work even on weekends. The workers appealed to the government to resolve the issues of the workers of Balochistan amicably.

They urged the government to take steps to provide relief to the nation by reducing prices and eliminating aggravating unemployment and abject poverty.

The power workers also commended the sacrifices of the Palestinians.

The meeting was addressed by union secretary general Khurshid Ahmad, Haji Younas, Osama Tariq, Rana Shakoor, Muzaffar Mateen and others.
