Call for removal of PPP women wing president

By Our Correspondent 2014-11-12
CHITRAL: Deputy information secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party, Chitral, Akmal Bhutto has demanded of the party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to reappoint Asma Alamgir as the women wing president in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to strengthen the party. He said that the incumbent Nighat Orakzai should be removed from the post as she was alien to the party and lacked leadership qualities.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he alleged that party`s former provincial president Syed Zahir Shah had acted arbitrarily to replace Ms Alamgir with Ms Nighat.

Flanked by other party activists, including Ikramullah Jan and Mohammad Rahman, Mr Akmal said that Ms Alamgir was a dynamic personality who utilised all her energies for establishing the women wing on sound footings in the province and had greatly achieved her objectives. He said that she had visited Chitral for seven times during her two years in office and travelled to the remote valleys of the district to meet and organise the women activists. In fact, Ms Alamgir had rejuvenated the women wing of the party, he said.

Mr Akmal alleged that Zahir Shah and Faryal Talpur were involved in removing Ms Alamgir from the important post of the party. He said that removal of such a dedicated activist from the top post of women wing had also angered the sincere party workers across the province. He asked the central leadership to stop Ms Talpur from directly meddling in the party affairs.

He said that women workers of the party in Chitral were disappointed after the removal of Ms Alamgir and they wanted her early return as provincial president of the women wing. He warned of starting a protest campaign if the central leadership delayed Ms Alamgir`s reinstatement.
