Anti-polio drive planned for Shangla areas

SHANGLA: The district health department has planned a fourday special anti-polio drive in various union councils of Shangla, which have been declared high risk after confirmation of a polio case in the neighbouring Kohistan district a couple of days ago.
Talking to media persons here on Friday, EPI coordinator Dr Wajid Ali said that a case had been confirmed in Kohistan a couple of days ago, prompting the EPI department to plan a special anti-polio drive in the union coun-cils of Shangla district which were in the close proximity of Kohistan.
He said the anti-polio drive starting from Nov 14 would have 275 teams to vaccinate 69,634 children during the special drive.
He further said the department had declared 12 union councils of the Shangla district as high risk. He added the areas included Butyal, Kormang, Shang, Maira, Dandai, Sarkol, Opal, Ranyal, Kuz Kana, Damorai, Pir Khana, Shahpur.
The EPI coordinator said the12 union councils had been divided into 62 areas and each area was allotted three to five teams to be supervised by an incharge. Nine district polio monitoring members will also supervise the campaign, he added.
Dr Ali maintained that the deputy commissioner had also deputed 31 special monitors to make the campaign a success, adding all the team members had been trained.
Meanwhile, a meeting on the anti-polio campaign was held on Friday in Alpuri chaired by dep-uty commissioner Dildar Ahmed.
The DC strictly directed the EPI of ficials and polio teams to make the campaign a success.
