LAHORE: The Punjab caretaker government has launched an app to issue learners driving licences online here on Monday to facilitate people in getting the document without visiting any office.
Speaking at the app launch, caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said it would help the applicants to effortlessly secure learners driving licences online.
He said the Punjab government was extending support by providing facilities for obtaining learners driving licences at patrolling posts, service centres, and the front desks of police stations.
The Naqvi administration has recently increased the learner driving licence fee from Rs60 to Rs1,000.
Meanwhile, the caretaker cabinet has approved revisions of the Motor Vehicles Rules of 1969, extending legal recognition to motorcycle-rickshaws.
These rickshaws will now be categorised as three-wheelers, with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has been designated as a special registration authority for the temporary registration of the existing motorcycle-rickshaws.
Following temporary registration, motorcycle-rickshaws will get a four-month window to conform to the specific size and design modifications as per rules.
Subsequently, the owners can obtain a registration number from the excise and taxation department after the issuance of a fitness certificate. The CM also laid the foundation stone of the Lady Willingdon Hospital reconstruction project on Monday.
Under the project, the old hospital building`s boundary wall will be demolished.
The new building, covering 250,000 squarefeet, will be built by the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) based on the design approved by the Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP).-Staff Reporter
