LAHORE: Fancied bay colt Sardar won the Munir Ahmad Dar Cup defeating bay colt Dhafir in a close battle here at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Named after an iconic Pakistan hockey captain, the term race for fouryear-olds was contested over 1,800 metres.
Sardar exhibited great speed, stamina and endurance ridden by Aamir Pervez who won by over a length in a record time of one minute and 50 3/5 seconds. Sardar was trained by Taugeer Ahmad.
Sardar bettered the previous record of one minute set by chestnut colt Jim And Tonic set up last year also under Aamir.
Sardar`s win on Sunday put him among the top contenders for this year`s Pakistan Derby scheduled for next month.
Dhafir was ridden by upcoming jockey Awais Anjum. Bay colt Swift and Retort finished third.
