Girl undergoes bronchoscopy procedure at LGH

LAHORE: Health professionals of the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) have successfully completed the Bronchoscopy procedure of 10-year-old MinahaI while maintaining the tradition of in-time diagnosis and successful treatment of complex diseases.

Under the supervision of MS Dr.

Frayad Hussain, who is also Associate Professor of Pediatric Medicine, the procedure was performed by the doctors of the pulmonology and pediatric medicine.Prof Agha Shabir Ali, head of the pulmonology department, Dr. Javed Magsi, Dr. Naeem Akhter and otherdoctors were also present on the occasion.

Medical experts say the Bronchoscopyis a procedure tolook directly at the airways in the lungs using a thin, lighted tube (bronchoscope).

They said during the bronchoscopy procedure, a scope is inserted through the nostril until it passes through the throatinto the trachea and bronchi.

Ameer Uddin Medical College Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Fareed Zafar lauded the efforts of the LGH medics saying the procedure was performed at the stateof-the-art operation theatre for which Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had releasedfunds for the bronchoscopy operations.Dr Faryad Hussain said that Minahil had been complaining of fever and weight loss for the past three months.

He said samples were taken from the lungs of the patient and sent to the lab to find out what other diseases the girl was suffering from apart from TB.

In the light of the diagnostic report, regular treatment of Minahil was started and all facilities were extended to herfree ofcost.

Medical experts said with the help of Bronchoscopy, doctors can diagnose various diseases in children and by using this method can directly see the complexities in the respiratory tract and lungs.
