RAWALPINDI: A young woman, who married a man against her family`s wishes last month, was shot dead by her brothers in the busy Moti Bazaar market on Thursday.

Her mother-in-law, brother-in-law and his two year old son were also injured in the firing.

Police said the twenty-two year old woman had married a man in court about 34 days ago. The couple settled down with her in-laws in Waris Khan mohallah.She was shopping in Moti Bazaar with her mother-inlaw, her borther-in-law and his two year old when her brothers arrived at the scene and opened fire at the family, killing their sister on the spot and injuring her inlaws.

Station House Officer (SHO) Aurangzaib said the couple married for love and the union was opposed by the girl`s family. He said the woman`s brothers Umair and Ali killed their sister in the name of honour and fled the scene.

The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital where they were stated to be in stable condition.
