Families of slain polio workers to get Rs8.8 million

SWABI: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to pay total Rs8.8 million as compensation to the families of the two women vaccinators, who were killed during an anti-polio drive in the district, according to sources.

The two polio worl(ers were killed by terrorists near the basic health unit in Parmuli on January 29. The compensation to the families of the slain workers, Shakeela Naz and Ghuncha Sirtaj, would be provided compensation under the `Shuhada Package.

A letter in this connection has been issued by finance department to health secretary, Swabi deputy commissioner and district health officer. The letter, a copy of which is available with Dawn, says that in response to the health department`s letter Shuhada grant would be provided to the families of the slain vaccinators. The finance department agrees to accord sanction to Rs8.8 million to the families of the killed pollo workers, it adds.

It has been stated that Rs6.6 million would be provided as cash compensation and Rs2.2 million in lieu of plot. Eech victim family would get Rs3.3 million as cash and a plot of R s1.1 million.

However, the officials concerned were told that they had to complete the legal requirements during the financial year 2019-20. DHO Dr Tariq, when contacted, said that all the legal requirements would be completed very soon and the victim families would face no difficulties in getting the grant as per rules.

KILLED: A constable of Yar Hussain police station was killed when a car hit him here on Wednesday.

Officials said that police were checking vehicles on Yar Duboian road when the gunman of SHO, Peer Gohar, signalled a car but the driver failed to control the vehicle and hit him. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

His funeral was held in Shahmansoor that was attended by DIG Sher Akbar, DPO Imran Shahid, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Mehmood and other officials.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed and another was injured when an auto rickshaw and a truck collided on SwabiMardan road in Adina area on Wednesday.

The killed woman was identified as Fareeda Begum. Correspondent
