BAJAUR: Jamaat-i-Islami on Monday celebrated its candidates` victory on two provincial assembly seats in the Feb 8 elections in Bajaur tribal district.
A gathering in this connection was held at the party`s central office in Khar.
A large number of party activists and supporters attended the gathering.
JI district chief Sahibzada Haroon Rasheed, general secretary Mohammad Hameed Sufi, MPA-elect from PK-20 Maulana Waheed Gul, MPA-elect from PK-21 Haji Sardar Khan and others spoke. They termed the victory a historic moment for the party`s local chapter.
The speakers said the victories showed JI was the most popular party in the district.
They said candidates` attachment with their voters in their respective constituencies helped them garner the public support in polls.
The speal(ers also thanked the people of the district, especially of PK-20 and PK-21, for votingfor JIcandidates.
Maulana Waheed Gul and Sardar Khan on the occasion pledged to work for betterment of people of their constituencies. They also promised to not compromise on the people`s rights at any cost.
Both the MPAs-elect also announced to purge the public departments of corruption.
The JI leaders also criticised PTI and other parties for not accepting their victories and staging protests against the election results.
