CT trophy tour rekindles hopes of international cricket in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The ICC Champions Trophy made a stop at the Hyderabad`s Niaz Stadium during its Trophy Tour on Wednesday, as Pakistan gears up to host the tournament from Feb 19.
The trophy was displayed in the stadium`s outfield for a photo shoot and young cricketers were thrilled to see it up close.
`I just wish that our team should win the trophy this year as our country is hosting the event,` said 13-year-old Ahaan Khan.
The stadium undergoing renovation work, initiated by Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Ali Shoro, which includes upgrades to the enclosures and a new pavilion building.
The visit has rekindled hopes for international cricket`s return to the venue, which last hosted an ODI in 2008 when Pakistan side defeated Zimbabwe. Pakistan remains unbeaten at the venue in both ODIs and Tests.
`Maybe the arrival of the trophy will bring international cricket back to our city,` youngster Faraz Ali said. `We hope to see the Pakistan team playing here in front of us soon.`-Staff Reporter
