Chinese air defence system inducted into Army`s arsenal

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army inducted a Chinese-built air defence system into its arsenal on Sunday.
Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa was the chief guest at a ceremony to induct the Low to Medium Altitude Air Defence System (LOMADS) LY-80 -into the army`s air defence system, according to a press releaseissued by the Inter Services Public Relations.
The LY-80 is a mobile air defence system capable of tracking and destroying aerial targets flying at low and medium altitude.
Gen Bajwa said LOMADS would enhance the army`s capability to respond to current and emerging air defence threats.-APP Our Staff Reporter in Islamabadadds: The Chinese-made ground-toair missile defence system has been with the military for a few years now, but was only formally inaugurated on Sunday.
The initial deal was for $300 million.
Based on the Russian technology, the surf ace-to-air missile system was introduced in the Chinese armed forces in September 2011.
