SAHIWAL: A young woman was found shot dead in mysterious circumstances in the fields near her house at 190/9A-L village on Saturday night.

Jerald Emmanuel, a village resident, initially told Harappa police that his sister Rawat Emmanuel had gone to fields to pick coriander when an unidentified youth attempted to molest her.

As she offered resistance, the attacker shot her and fled away, he said, adding that she died on the spot.

Police said that when the body was recovered, it had coriander in the right hand.

Police said the girl belonged to a poor family that lived near the fields.

They said that on hearing a gunshot, Rawat`s family members rushed to the fields and found her lying there in a critical condi-tion with a bullet wound.

She succumbed to her wound without giving any statement.

Harappa Station House Officer Zaid Anjum said the postmortem report confirmed the victim was shot from pointblank range.

Harappa police have registered a murder FIR on the complaint of the victim`s brother against unidentified killer.

The SHO said police are collecting forensic data and tracing out the GPS location of mobile phones of different suspects.

BODY RETRIEVED: Rescue 1122 recovered the body of a man from the 138/9-L canal on Sunday, who is suspected of jumping into the water to kill self on Friday.

The Ghala Mandi police said the deceased, identified as Muhammad Shabbir from Dispensary Road, was a tailor and worker at a leather factory until last month.The factory closed down last month, leaving him jobless. Some passersby alerted Rescue 1122 when they saw him jumping into the canal on Friday evening.

Police, after the postmortem, handed over the body to the family. He is survived by his wife and four children.

FIRING: Celebratory fire at a wedding ceremony killed a youth in village205/EB,Pakpattan.

The deceased was identified as Allah Ditta.

At the wedding of Ihsan Jutt, his brothers Ahmed Jutt, a patrolling police constable, and Asif Jutt started firing, during which a bullet hit Allah Ditta in the chest.

He died at the scene.

The Ahmed Yar police collected evidence while the heirs said they did not want to pursue any police action.
