PTI govt fails to improve governance, says Sherpao

2014-04-13
MINGORA: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Saturday said the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf had miserably failed to keep its election promise of improving governance in KP.

Addressing a public meeting in Totkai area of Matta subdivision in Swat district, the QWP chairman said the people of the pmvince, especially the residents of Swat, had gave mandate to Awami National Party in the 2008 general elections to rule the province after it promised to restore peace in the province after coming to power, but the party failed to do so.

`This time around, the people of the province gave the mandate to PTI for bringing about change in their lives but the ruling party, too, has failed to deliver the goods,` he said.

Mr Sherpao said the people of the province, especially the residents of Malakand division, had suffered a lot due to terrorism but no government took practical steps for their welfare. He said his party had reservations about the formation of a government committee for dialogue with the Taliban but supported the peace process as it wanted to see peace return to the country. The QWP chairman said Pakhtuns were peace-loving people, who had long been facing terrorism but had never spoken against their homeland.

`The situation in Pakhtun areas has been created by conspirators. The government should take practical steps for restoring peace in the restive areas of the country,` he said.

Among other speakers were QWP leaders Bakht Baidar Khan, Fazal Rehman and Rahimullah.

On the occasion, former candidate for the national and provincial assembly seats in Matta subdivision Taal Hayat Khan along with his family members and supporters formally joined QWP.
