Shrine accused in judicial custody

By Our Correspondent 2017-04-13
SARGODHA: The four accused of killings at the shrine of Chak 95-NB were remanded in judicial custody by the anti-terrorism court judge on Wednesday turning down police`s plea for further physical custody of the accused.

The judge saw no merit in Sargodha Sadar police`s request for physical remand of Abdul Waheed, Zafar Ali, Muhammad Asif and Kashif when investigation had been complete d and the weapon confiscated.

Late on April 1, Waheed (the custodian of Ali Muhammad Gujar shrine) had killed 20 disciples, including four women, with Zafar, Asif and Kashif.

Police said Waheed declared himself as Allah`s imam and would often cleanse his disciple of sin by stripping them off and beating them with clubs.

The police also said there was dispute of succession of custodian between the son of Ali Muhammad Gujar andWaheed. The other charge states Waheed would often booze.

Allah Ditta, of Pir Mahal, whose son Habibur Rehman is among the deceased, said Waheed had also tried to kill six disciples one week prior to the April 1 incident and one Nasir, who says he survived the attack, had alerted the police but DSP Muhammad Shabir Gujar and his son-in-law Taugeer Gujar thwarted the police action. If the complaint had been taken seriously, the 20 people could have been saved.

He alleged the police officer, whose son Muhammad Hussain was among the deceased, was still influencing the investigating. He appealed to the chief minister to ensure justice to them.

In first year exam, 616 candidates, of 745, passed while 45 candidates, of 49, of the fifth year exam passed.
