Mother of three strangled by husband over `honour`

GUJRAT: A mother of three was allegedly strangled by her husband over honour here on Wednesday at Purana Mungowal in Kunjah police precincts.

Reports said Muhammad Waseem suspected that his wife Rukhsana Kausar, 32, had loose morals. On Wednesday, he allegedly strangled her. The suspect managed his escape.

Police have registered a case against the suspect under section 302 of Pakistan PenalCode on the report of Qamar Abbas, a relative of the deceased.

Police have shifted the body to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Earlier on Monday, another married woman was found shot dead allegedly by her husband at the roof of her house at Shah Jahanian in Tanda police precincts.

Sangeeta Ansar, who too was a mother of three, had been found dead in the pool of blood at the roof of her house as a pistol was also lying beside her body when the police reached there.

Initially the family tried to give the impression that she had committed suicide.

Police was told by the locals that the couple had sour relations.Police have booked suspect Ansar on the report of the maternal uncle of the deceased.

As many as five women have beenkilled across the districtover issues relating to honour and domestic dispute during the 12 days of the current month.

According to police data, four women had been killed in March.

BOOKED: The brothers of an alleged outlaw, who was 1(illed in an `encounter` with the police, are said to be the suspects involved in the killing of PML-N ex-councillor Malik Rasheed Awan.

On Sunday, Mr Awan was killed near Khohaar village in Saddar Sara-i-Alamgir police limits.

Awan was killed for informing the police about the whereabouts of their brother.

Police have registered a case against Saglain Husain and Sharjeel Husain, brothers of Basharat Husain, Muhammad Azam and six other nominated suspects under sections 302, 148, 149 and 109 of Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Asdil Rasheed, the son of the deceased councillor.

However, no arrest was made.

The complainant alleged in his written application to the police that his father was killed because he had informed the police about Basharat Husain, who had been killed a few months ago in a`shootout.

MOOT ON PLANTS: The first international conference -Plants, their chemical and biological applications for today and tomorrow -opened here at Hafiz Hayat Campus, University of Gujrat (UoG), on Wednesday.

Scholars from Pakistani public and private sector universities as well as from Turkey and Japan are participating in the three-day conference which is funded by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and Office for Research, Innovation and Commercialization of the UoG.

Meanwhile, last episode of an intensive campaign on gender parity was held at the UoG Hafiz Hayat Campus on Tuesday.

Speakers urged society to work for gender equity or parity and motivate others, especially educated women, to be up and doing for the sake oftheircountry.

The campaign titled `Institutionalization of Gender Sensitization and Gender Training Materials in Public Sector Universities,` was funded by the USAID through local NGOs and launched at selected public sector universities.

UoG senior faculty members Dr Zakia Bano, Dr Bushra Akram, Tipu Sultan and Mr Nasim Ahmed were among the guests of honour.
